MG Gloster SUV Spied Testing; Clear Images Inside

MG Motors India showcased the Gloster SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. Now, it has been spied undisguised on the Indian roads, albeit with hidden logos. MG Gloster is a full-sized SUV which will take on the likes of Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and Mahindra Alturas G4 in India. For those asking, it is the re-badged version of Maxus D90 SUV which is sold in the Chinese market. Presently, the British automaker is busy in the preparation of its second vehicle launch in the Indian market in the form of Hector Plus SUV, which will be launched in the first week of July 2020.

MG Gloster SUV was initially expected to launch during the festive season of October-November this year but the plan was postponed in favour of an early 2021 launch due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. It is going to be the most premium and expensive offering from the SAIC-owned brand in India. Dimension-wise, the Gloster SUV measures even more than Toyota Land Cruiser LC200, which indicates its marathon size. Based on a ladder-frame architecture, MG Gloster price is expected to start from Rs 45 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). It will debut first-in-segment electrically-controlled rear doors in Indian market, something that most auto enthusiasts had witnessed during its premiere at the 2020 Auto Expo.

MG Gloster features will include LED adaptive headlamps, a massive panoramic sunroof, gesture-controlled tailgate, three-zone climate control system and a massive 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with internet connectivity. Under the bonnet, it will have an in-built 2.0L twin-turbocharged diesel motor which will generate maximum power of 218bhp and peak torque of 480Nm. The engine will be linked to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard while an 8-speed auto gearbox could be introduced at a later stage. It is not yet clear whether the SUV will be offered with an all-wheel-drive (4x4) system as standard or not. More details are expected to emerge in the coming days. Stay tuned!
